All of my life: anxiety. “You come by it honestly” says my
therapist. She has heard the stories, knows the family addictions, struggles,
troubles, behaviors. In recovery it lessened so much. Thank God. It helps that
I no longer add to the biological or the behavioral components. But still.
Many times I have thought, “Well, if this is the price of
surviving, then OK, I’ll take anxiety.”
Cognitive therapy helps. A lot.
But still.
And then today reading about spirituality for artists I saw
this from American philosopher, Charles Frankel:
“Anxiety is the essential condition of intellectual and
artistic
creation and everything that is finest in human history.”
And I laughed.
